I understand that you are hurt for I am hurt also. I am crying because of the hurt in our nation. I am crying because of your hurt.
I am hurt and sorry that George Floyd was killed.
I have spoken several times this week with a dear friend whose skin tone is different from mine. She has tried to explain your situation and how you are treated differently from white people. I am trying to get my mind around it. She says it is difficult for me because I haven’t experienced it. She is right.
She has explained that when she goes to a restaurant the host/hostess leads her toward the back of the restaurant near the kitchen and she has to ask for a better seat when there are many available. She shared that a friend wrote her a check for a large amount of money and then went to the bank with her because she understood she would be questioned about the check because of her skin tone.
I am sorry for all the times you have experienced racial profiling. I am sorry for all the times you have been abused by police. But I would like to say that not all police are prejudice. Many police are good people who care about you. So please don’t judge all because of the bad ones. Would you like me to judge you as a bad person because I have had a bad experience with a black person? Though I must admit I haven’t met a black person that I didn’t like or who hasn’t treated me well.
I am sorry that there are white folk who hate you. They are wrong. But not all white folk hate you.
I am sorry that there are black folk who hate me. They are wrong. But not all black folk hate me. I have many that are dear friends of a different color that I love and care about and they love and care about me.
I am sorry you are so hurt that you feel you have to destroy cities in order to be heard. Perhaps that was necessary, though I do not agree with it.
Can we come to a place where we can sit down at tables in our communities and discuss these issues? Legislation has not worked. These issues need to be raised at all levels of government. White folk like me need to understand where you are coming from, so we can help.
Can you forgive white folk for not understanding and not taking the time to understand?
Can white folk take the time to listen with an open heart?
I awoke this morning agitated and didn’t understand why. I asked God to help me. Right now I am studying in Isaiah and 1 Peter. God spoke to my heart and told me to skip Isaiah this morning and spend my time in 1 Peter. I read the following that I would like to share with you.
1 Peter 3:8-12 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
8 “ To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; 9 not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but [ giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. 10 For,
“THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS,
MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT.
11 “HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD;
HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT.
12 “FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS,
AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER,
BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL.”
I am sorry for all the bad and evil you have experienced. But many of us care, want to help and love you.
