Ephesians 2:13 (KJV)

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

John 6:53 (KJV)

Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

1 John 1:7 (KJV)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

From ancient times God, YAWEH, has always required a blood sacrifice for the remission of sins.  Before Christ came into the world bulls and goats were offered to expunge sin.  This was usually done annually.  But God recognized that there would always be a need for continual sacrifice for man’s sins since man is human and imperfect.  Therefore, he sent Jesus into the world to offer a onetime sacrifice for all sin for all people for eternity.  Christ accomplished this with his death on the cross.

There is a catch however, it is up to each of us to be willing to accept this sacrifice and have the blood applied to our life. Before the Israelites left Egypt, God had them apply blood to the door post of their houses so that the death angel would Passover them, so in essence Christ has become our Passover.  The blood can also be compared to the Ark in Noah’s day.  They had to enter the Ark to be saved so we must accept the blood to enter the ark of salvation.

I was sitting in church recently and recalling some things that I had accomplished in life and the Holy Spirit gently reminded me that really meant nothing that the only reason I could stand before God was because of the sacrifice of Jesus.  That is so true.  I cannot in anyway stand before God in my own virtue.  He sees me only through the blood of Jesus.

There is an old hymn that addresses this Nothing but the Blood of Jesus and a modern song Chris Tomlins Love Ran Red.

Jesus cared enough for all people to suffer excruciating pain in the stripes that were caused by flogging and to die. When he died, he was totally separated from the Father and had to place his confidence in Him that he would raise him from the dead.  God being faithful did just that.  It is through Jesus’ sheds blood that we have access to eternal life.

Derek Prince’s book Bought with Blood, The Devine Exchange at the Cross addresses this in depth.
