Paul said in his letter the Galatian church:

Galatians 3:26-29 New American Standard Bible 1995 “26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.”

The sons of God have been “baptized into Christ.“ They have made a public confession of faith through water baptism.

The disciples baptized as Christ instructed them to: Matthew 28:16-20 New American Standard Bible 1995

“16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. 18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.””

When you put on Christ, you start a path of removing the world from your life. This is a progressive journey that the Holy Spirit guides you on. Hopefully, gross immorality will be removed quickly but this is not always the case. As I said it is a progressive journey. God changes you in His time.

Eventually a person sees more than gross sin in his life. The Holy Spirit points out attitudes that must be changed. Perhaps you do not like a specific person. The Holy Spirit speaks to your spirit and says wait a minute that attitude is not right. How does Christ feel about that person? You are a new person in Christ how does Christ want you to view that person? God loves you and expects you to become more Christlike every day but never changes you sooner than you can accept the change. Your journey is lifelong.

I cannot tell you how many times I committed the same sin and God would gently say you blew it again. Eventually I got it and changed. God knowing this was a journey made provision for this.

1 John 2:1-2   “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.”

God does not expect us to willfully sin. Yet removing worldly habits from our life, which took us years to form, tend to stick to us. Change will come if we earnestly desire to become more like Christ. So “clothe yourselves with Christ.”
