Who is God?

Exodus 3:14 (KJV) “And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.”  The name I Am has no need of further clarification because He is.  He has always existed and always will.  He was not created.  John 4:24 (KJV) ”God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

God is Creator

John 1:1-4 (KJV) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

Genesis 1:1 (KJV) 1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV) “26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

God is Spirit

God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:2 (KJV) “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

If God made us in His image, then we must also have a spiritual component. John 4:24 (NASB) states “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Ecclesiastes 12:5-8 (NASB) also acknowledges the spirit of man.

“… For man goes to his eternal home while mourners go about in the street. Remember Him before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed; then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”

Our Christian forefathers recognized this.  Acts 7:59-60 (NASB) “59 They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!60 Then falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” Having said this, he fell asleep.”

God is Love.

1 John 4:8 (KJV) “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”

Ephesians 2:4 (KJV) “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,”

1 John 4:10 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”

To recap God is.  He has always been and always will be.  He is creator of all things.  Man is made in His likeness in spirit for God is a spiritual being.  God is three personifications Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  God is love.
