Who do you listen to?  The world system and those of the world are yelling for attention, and they are getting it.  The world teaches many things.  There are no absolute values, what is right in your eyes is right.

  • It is okay to lie.
  • It is okay to hate.
  • It is okay to destroy other people’s reputations so that I look good.
  • It is okay to kill:
    • To kill others for my personal satisfaction and gain.
    • To kill the unborn so that I may go on with my life as I choose.
    • To kill others because they don’t believe as I do.
  • It is okay to steal.
  • It is okay to cheat.
  • It is okay to commit adultery with my friend’s spouse.
  • It is okay to abuse drugs because they make me feel good.
  • It is okay to make alliances with those that will kill others for not agreeing with their beliefs.

People of the world believe these lies because it makes them feel good.  They can have their own way all the time.  Many don’t believe there is a God and therefore they are not accountable to anyone but themselves.

1 John 5:19 New American Standard Bible 1995 states: “We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”  1 John 4:5 New American Standard Bible 1995 also states They are from the world; therefore, they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them.”

Why do people listen to the world?  Because they don’t want to hear the word of Yahweh.  That would mean they could no longer always have their way.   They chose to walk in their own way for power, money, and selfishness.

Joshua 24:15 New American Standard Bible 1995 If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

The gods that Yahweh has always found reprehensible are idols. Yahweh is the one true God.  There is no other God.  The twelve tribes of Judah struggled with this repeatedly.  They were obstinate and self-willed and often worshipped idols. Today idols are not just images fashioned of wood, silver and bronze.  They are more deceitful.  It can be drugs, alcohol, sex, money, power, self-will to name a few.  Anything that takes precedence over Yahweh in our lives can be considered an idol.

Some delude others, and some delude themselves, 1 John 4:1 New American Standard Bible 1995 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”   False prophets will encourage the worshipping of idols.

Matthew 7:21 New American Standard Bible 1995 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.”

What is the will of the Lord, Luke 10:27 New American Standard Bible 1995 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.””

So, how do I love my neighbor?  1 John 5:3 NASB “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.”

Everyone has a choice to listen to the world or listen to the one true God.

Who will you choose to listen to?
